5 Creative Content Hacks to Promote Your New Music Release

You’re going to need a lot of content to promote new music. Below, we’ve provided ways for you to work smarter, not harder. Here are 5 hacks to increase your output and make your content look great!

Hack #1: Start With Multiple 1 > Hour Performance Videos

To get started, all you’ll need to do is:

  • Pick 3-5 locations

  • Prepare 2-3 outfits Or “looks” you can swap out of easily

After this is all decided, you’ll go to each location and record a full performance, lip-synching to the master audio of your song.

  • Have a friend there to play your song off camera to sing along to. No need to worry about the logistics – you’ll add the master audio in editing afterwards!

Once you get to editing, cut each take of your song line-by line. Why? By switching the performance location of each line from the verse or chorus, you’ll get a different version of each performance video. For example:

If going line-by-line doesn’t give you the desired effect or if you want more content, you can also use longer clips from each performance to share the entire take. This gives you another group of edits that may look like the following:

  • Location 1: Full Verse

  • Location 1: Full Chorus

  • Location 2: Full Verse

  • Location 2: Full Chorus

  • Location 3: Full Verse

  • Location 3: Full Chorus

Hack #2: Use Your Song’s Core Message / Title / Lyric to Create Unique Visuals

You know your song better than anyone – with this content idea, you can put this knowledge to good use! Use a key aspect of your song to catch your audience’s eye!

When you’ve decided on your song’s key aspect, here are your next steps:

  • Choose the lyric you think your listeners will remember most easily

  • Brainstorm 3-5 objects, backdrops, or locations related to that lyric/idea

  • Need some help choosing the key aspect of your song? Think about the core message or the key lyric! If you’re still having trouble, you can’t go wrong with using the song’s title!

Now that the big decisions are out of the way, time for the fun! Your last step is to shoot your performance videos with these locations/objects. Going through this process may seem tedious, but having locations and/or objects that are associated with your song will prompt the viewers to see these visual cues.

Hack #3: Research New Content Ideas by Finding What Your Fans Consume Online

Social media is for posting, but it’s also for research! Using an additional social media account on each platform, brainstorm content ideas.

To start off, create archetypes/descriptions of your most common fans. These are the fans that buy tickets to your shows and/or interact with you on your social media accounts the most. Talk to the fans in the merch line at your next show or look at the profiles of your most engaged fans.

  • When it comes to social media research, you’ll want to create a separate account. Your official profiles should only be for posting your content and interacting with your fans. Keep your official profiles and your research profiles separate!

Once you have your target audience, look into their interests! Whether by asking them directly in person or from what you can glean online, curate lists of their interests. Look into:

  • Their other favorite artists

  • Favorites within other forms of media – TV/Film, Books, Podcasts, Etc.

  • Their interests in other sectors online – fashion, news, family, social life, and pop culture

When it comes to these details, you’ll never stop getting new information and your data may change over time. You can update these details accordingly!

Then, using your extra socials, you’re going to engage only with content that you think your common fan would like. This way, you’ll train the algorithm to curate a feed that is similar to a fan of yours. Once your extra social media feeds look like one of your fan’s feeds, you can use this account as a source of new content ideas for your own channels. This way, you’ll know for sure that your fans will already be interested in your new content!

Hack #4: Use Editing Apps

Editing apps are a simple and accessible way to save money and time when it comes to editing your content! Each app has its own unique features, so play around with each one and see which aspects of each you like and what’s easiest for your content capture system! Some of our favorite short form video editing apps are CapCut, Splice, and InShot.

  • If you create a video within TikTok or Reels and want to syndicate to other platforms without the TikTok or Instagram logo on top of the video (aka a watermark), simply run the video through a watermark remover and then post to other platforms!

Hack #5: Use Widely Recognized Visuals to Promote your Song

You don’t need to create an expensive music video or live performance video to be successful! Instead, you can use content that already exists online – make your song the soundtrack!

Using commonly known GIFs and memes, tailor their language or captions to relate to your song title or lyrics. Remember those key song aspects we were talking about earlier? You can use those again here!

Along with GIFs and memes, you can research well known media from the last 3-6 months! Look into:

  • Viral videos

  • News stories

  • TV shows

  • Movie slips

  • After finding your sources, you can re-edit the most popular content online and add your song/lyrics to help your fans interact with your song in a way they’re already familiar with!
